Volunteer at the CSU/EXPO Urban Farm
3990 Bill Robertson Lane, Los Angeles, CA 90037
1 block east of Vermont Ave., just off of Martin Luther King Blvd., next to the senior center, street parking or paid parking across the street from the farm
Saturday mornings 9am to 12pm
Tuesday mornings 9am to 12pm
Sometimes due to major events at the stadium we have to cancel, please check our website (do not call or email) before coming out, where we list any cancellations
This is a working farm, children younger than 16 must come with parents/guardian who are responsible for and will supervise them at ALL times.Volunteer time at the EXPO Mini-Farm may include all manner of farming related activities; everything from harvesting plants and seeds, moving compost and mulch, digging up weeds and grasses, cutting back overgrown plants, to clearing and bagging up trash. Exactly what you do, depends on the needs of the farm at the time you volunteer. Farming tools and gloves are available at the farm, if you have a pair of gloves you particularly like, feel free to bring them. You do not need to have farming experience, you will be walked through tasks that you are asked to carry out.
Even in cooler weather the EXPO Farm can get quite warm. Please dress in light colored, layered clothing and comfortable shoes you don’t mind getting dirty. It’s also a good idea to have a sun hat, especially in the spring and summer and some sun block. CSU sites are plastic and “junk food” free zones. Volunteers are asked to bring a water bottle (a simple mason jar works well), for re-filling, the water at the farm is potable. Please note there is no restroom at the farm itself, there are restrooms at the senior center located next door and if that is closed, at the swim stadium a little further along Bill Robertson Lane. There is some limited parking in an area between the farm and Martin Luther King Blvd., and street parking in the surrounding area. We encourage folks to walk, bike or get public transport to the farm.
PLEASE NOTE: Individuals are welcome to volunteer with an RSVP. We cannot respond to emails or voicemail messages about volunteering; check our Events Calendar to ensure there isn’t a cancellation and just show up. Groups must make prior arrangements before coming to volunteer. We cannot accommodate groups without prior arrangement; if you wish to bring a group from your workplace, school, organization please send an email to csu@csuinc.org. Please be aware that our response may not be immediate. We appreciate your patience.
